Sword Art Online is one of the most influential animes of the decade. The series occurs in the future and focuses on a world influenced by various virtual reality MMORPG worlds. The earlier seasons have me hooked from start to finish, but the beginning of this season has left a sour taste in my mouth.
In the current season, Kirito and friends are locked in a battle between good and evil in a virtual world designed to raise artificial intelligence. Leafa, Kirito’s stepsister, is molested by energy tentacles in this episode until a pig decides to give himself one less eye and save her.
Positives
There’s like one or two good animation cuts, and it’s good to see everyone back together again. At least the sexual assault didn’t last the whole episode like in Alfheim. I’m really stretching here, guys.
Negatives
I feel like I’ve talked enough about the elephant in the room, so what else do I not like here. Well, everything else. The fights in Sword Art Online look boring and static. The plot is uninteresting and basic. The episode grinds to a halt when we have to spend time on the pig scene. Sorry, I didn’t want to talk about that. It’s also hard to believe anyone is in danger when it comes to characters we care about.
I plan to watch the first episode of every new show that is coming out this season. If you want to know what to watch, and what to stay away from, follow this series.
