The Misfit of the Demon Academy Episode 1 Review

The Misfit of the Demon Academy begins with a prestigious academy looking for the reincarnation of the founding demon. Its been exactly 2000 years since the founder of Demonkind has ruled the land. A black haired boy makes quick work of all potential contenders and establishes himself as the god of this highschool- sorry demon King if this academy. The only problem is, he is not very good at making jokes… wait what?

Every once in a while the Demon King said something ironically funny. Like when he was shooting comebacks at the noble guy. He also resurrects his opponent before cracking a three second rule joke. Which would of had potential if it was written better. The girl is also tolerably cute.

This show has no stakes. In the first episode, the main character manages to break a magic aptitude test, ace a history magic test, not only kill but resurrect two people effortlessly while defending a bystander from an explosion and use teleportation magic exclusive to him. When a show has low stakes, it usually makes up for it with good comedy. Wait, the premise is that he is bad at jokes… oops

The Misfit of the Demon Academy did nothing to stand out. The biggest reaction it got out of me was an exasperated ‘WHAT?’ when after establishing that a person must be revived in less than 3 seconds, demon boy just revived both his opponents effortlessly. Reversing death in the first episode is one of the fastest ways to invalidate stakes going forward. Don’t waste your time here, the girls aren’t even that cute anyway.

I plan to watch the first episode of every new show that is coming out this season. If you want to know what to watch, and what to stay away from, follow this series.
