GIBIATE: Episode 1 – Mini Review

GIBIATE is about a virus that has swept the planet transforming humans into inhuman creatures. A girl works to try to create a vaccine. Meanwhile, two samurai from the 16th century are sent through time to help. I promise I’m not making any of this up.

Gibiate

Positives

The concept of Gibiate is really interesting and a unique take on the zombie thriller genre. There are a lot of potentially interesting directions this show could go.

Negatives

Unfortunately, they have no interest in going those directions. GIBIATE looks ugly and boring. The plot moves at a snail’s pace and the one fight had almost no animation in it. I’ve been given no reason to care about this world or these characters which makes it hard to get invested.

Summary

A cool concept can only get you so far. A lot of the writing elements in Gibiate don’t seem to be thought out either. For instance, if the creatures can only infect someone every 24 hours, how on earth would this virus have spread so fast? I’ve just decided to stop worrying about it and drop the show. I’d advise you to do the same.

I plan to watch the first episode of every new show that is coming out this season. If you want to know what to watch, and what to stay away from, follow this series.
