Lapis Re:LiGHTs: Episode 1 – Mini Review

Lapis Re: LiGHTs follows a girl who has just arrived at a magic academy for witches. Students can choose whatever classes they want, and they are divided into three ranks based on academic achievement. Noir, Rouge, and Lapis, Noir being the highest and Lapis the lowest. She meets some new friends who are all Lapis and will be expelled if they fail again. But let’s be honest, guys, this is an idol show, they are gonna sing and dance and, through the power of friendship, save the day.

Positives

Lapis Re: LiGHTs has an interesting art style, and so far, the characters are fun and likable. The school seems fascinating to explore, though I doubt we will do much more of that. The fantasy setting is unique, and it could keep the show just different enough to stand out in the market.

Negatives

It has a lot of idol tropes that I’ve gotten used to. The main character has a famous sibling, lots of other club options we won’t be exploring, and an underdog rising to the top. I hope this will stand out despite these tropes, but we will just have to wait and see.

I plan to watch the first episode of every new show that is coming out this season. If you want to know what to watch and what to avoid, follow this series. Here is a list of all the shows.
