The God of Highschool: Episode 1 – Mini Review

The God of Highschool is a well-choreographed, high-energy creation that sets the standard for anime adaptations of Korean Manhwa.

The God of Highschool is a tournament between students to determine the best fighter in Korea. Any martial art is allowed in the tournament, and all weapons are viable. The winner will have any wish granted to them. Mori Jin, a Taekwondo specialist and a high school student, soon discovers there might be more to this tournament than meets the eye.

Positives

The fight choreography looks great and perfectly showcases the different fighting styles between the characters. The animation is fluid and full of energy, and the sound design and score are fantastic.

Negatives

The pacing felt a bit too slow at the beginning and really fast in the middle. The slow start made it really hard to get invested initially, but once the main cast was introduced, those worries subsided. The only thing The God of Highschool is missing so far is a strong, compelling narrative to get invested in.

Summary

The God of Highschool had a lot of hype before release, and so far, it has yet to disappoint. The environment in which it is set is fantastic, and the bike chase scene, while a bit too fast-paced, had high energy and got my blood pumping. I’m looking forward to seeing all the unique fighting styles and how they clash. The God of Highschool is one to keep a close eye on, and I recommend checking this one out if you want to be a part of the seasonal anime discussion.

I plan to watch the first episode of every new show that is coming out this season. If you want to know what to watch and what to avoid, follow this series. Here is a list of all the shows.
