The Game Crater’s Top 10 Most Anticipated Games For April

For the past few months, everyone here at The Game Crater has pooled together the game’s they’re most excited for into a pun-filled list! While each month has had its fair share of impressive titles, the games releasing this April are certainly nothing to scoff at. There’s everything from cosy life-sims to triple-A looter shooters, horror rogue-likes and full-blown JRPG wackiness. So, sit back, relax, and delve deep into our innermost desires. Who knows, maybe you’ll discover your next favourite game within.

Outriders – April 1st, 2021

We’ve covered our feelings on Outriders on The Game Crater already, and while they’re a little mixed, we appreciate that this is a hustling and bustling title. People are hyped, and Square Enix knows this, choosing to feature a heft deep dive at their Square Enix Presents event. It’s a huge co-operative experience, with plenty of lootin’ and shootin’ to be had. It features some stunning visuals across varied landscapes and a fully fleshed-out sci-fi-fantasy narrative. If you’re still undecided, then you can check out its demo over on your platform of choice.

Oddworld: Soulstorm – April 6th, 2021

Oddworld: Soulstorm may feel like a little bit of an oddity to the uninitiated, but for fans of the Oddworld franchise, this will be right up their alley! Fans are likely salivating at the fact that its release is so soon, especially as the game has been delayed numerous times. But it’s finally here, and boy are we excited. After the deep dive at last month’s PlayStation State of Play, Oddworld: Soulstorm has certainly proven itself to be one of the more intriguing titles heading to the PlayStation.

Cozy Grove – April 8th, 2021

Cozy Grove looks like the perfect spiritual successor to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Its chilled-out atmosphere and relaxed gameplay look suited for these exhaustingly bleak times. It boasts 40+ hours of gameplay, which is already an extraordinary amount for such a low-priced title. If you’re a fan of Spiritfarer or Animal Crossing, then there’s a great chance you’ll dig this cosy little title.

Cozy Grove warms our hearts this April 8th for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Before Your Eyes – April 8th, 2021

We’ve talked a lot about Before Your Eyes on The Game Crater, including on our very own podcast, Crater Corner. But for the uninitiated, Before Your Eyes uses your very own eyes (and their ability to blink) to progress through the narrative. Experience the highs and lows of life through an entirely mo-capped narrative in this “blink and you’ll miss it” story. We certainly think it looks incredibly interesting and very innovative. It’s one of our most anticipated games for a reason.

Before Your Eyes will be before your eyes this April 8th when it comes to PC.

Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139… – April 22nd, 2021

Weird title aside, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… looks like an incredible video game. This is essentially a remake of the Japan-exclusive Nier Replicant and will likely be as weird and beautiful as the much-beloved Nier Automata. If you’re a fan of the series, then you know exactly what to expect. This looks visually stunning, and will almost certainly involve a crazy, intense and heart-breaking anime-style narrative. We’re definitely excited for this release and can’t wait to get stuck in.

MLB The Show 21 – April 20th, 2021

What’s there to say about MLB The Show 21, other than it’s going to be a home run. Puns aside, MLB The Show 21 seeks to bring the classic American sport to the big screen, as it does well every year. For fans of the series, this will be the very next best thing, and for newcomers, well now is as good a time as any to hop on in.

Humankind – April 22nd, 2021

From the creators of Endless Space and Endless Legend comes a whole new 4X game and it has got us giddy! We love a good 4x game here at The Game Crater, and we know full well that Amplitude Studios are the master at them. While Humankind looks a little like Civilisation, the character creator certainly adds a lot to proceedings, and Amplitude Studio’s experience and talent at making 4x strategy games will undoubtedly result in a unique experience.

New Pok̩mon Snap РApril 30th, 2021

New Pokémon Snap has certainly been on our radar for a while now. When the latest Pokémon Presents offered some brand-new details on New Pokémon Snap, you know we were jumping with joy. We’re huge fans of the original as it holds a nice, N64 cartridge size shape in our hearts. A full-blown remake is not only what we’ve longed for, but also a great opportunity for newcomers to share in our nostalgic memories. We can’t wait to play this when it launches at the end of April.

Returnal – April 30th, 2021

Of course, we’re excited for Returnal here at The Game Crater. It’s a stunning, fast-paced, horror-themed rogue-like with some terrifyingly brilliant monster design. There’s a creepy atmospheric narrative that accompanies all this exciting gameplay, and the latest State of Play even outlined some of it. If you’re into horror, deep-narratives or rogue-likes then this is definitely one to pick up this month. We sure will be!
