The robot menace in Helldivers 2, called the Automatons, has been destroyed by players in the game, for now.
The Galactic War in Helldivers 2 continues to rage on, with the Terminids and Automatons causing devastation across the galaxy, and players have been fighting to save Super Earth. A significant victory was recently achieved when the Helldivers 2 community completely wiped out the Automaton robots from all their occupied sectors.
The Automatons in Helldivers 2 Have Been Defeated
A new Major Order was introduced on Thursday, April 4, 2024, in Helldivers 2. It tasked players with liberating the final three planets under Automaton control in the game. Amazingly, the Helldivers 2 community came together, some 420,000 strong, and achieved the goal on the same day. Over 10 hours remained in the Major Order when the final Automaton planet, Durgen, was taken around 1:38 pm PST/3:38 pm EST/8:38 pm GMT/7:38 am AEST.
Players have struggled with the Automatons for a while in Helldivers 2. The most notable being the give and take over the planet of Malevelon Creek. The planet’s capture even led the developers, Arrowhead Game Studios, to add a wearable cape to commemorate the fallen in the battle. So, seeing the Automatons completely wiped off the in-game map is impressive for all players.
What Happens Next in Helldivers 2?
A new Major Order has already been assigned in Helldivers 2, asking players to take three planets from the Terminids within the next day. However, in terms of the future of the Galactic War itself, this is likely only the beginning. When viewing the map on the in-game Destroyer, there looks to be room for more factions to invade. Furthermore, the Illuminate is a faction that was previously leaked and discussed. So, we will most likely see the alien antagonists begin to appear on the map soon.
While the victory over the Automatons is tremendous, the Helldivers 2 narrative is in control by one man. Joel, the infamous game master of Helldivers 2, will likely introduce the Illuminate to show that the Galactic War only continues to escalate. A surprise attack from the faction would be a great story point and bring a new form of combat gameplay, as the Illuminate is entirely different from the Automatons and Terminids.
The Automatons Will Likely Return in Helldivers 2
Although they are gone for now, we will likely see the return of the Automatons in Helldivers 2. For one, their faction name still appears on the Galactic War table map. Although an update could change this, the faction will likely begin to occupy different sectors around their side of the map in the future.
Another reason why the Automatons will return is that there is a trophy and achievement for players to unlock concerning this faction. The trophy in question requires players to “Defeat a Hulk.” As such, this is only possible with the Automatons, so if this trophy is not changed, players will not be able to earn it. Therefore, the Automatons will be back in the game at some point, likely sooner rather than later.
Helldivers 2 is ever-changing and ongoing, bringing new Stratagems, weapons, and much more.
