Sana Chiba Veiled Vow and Romance

Rise of the Ronin: Sana Chiba Romance and Favor Guide

Sana Chiba is the master of the Hokushin Itto-ryu combat style, and to romance her in Rise of the Ronin, you’ll have to steal her away from Ryoma Sakamoto.

You can romance a number of different characters in Rise of the Ronin, including Sana Chiba. If you’ve found yourself getting jealous over her love for Ryoma and want to work hard to romance her, then you’ll want to make her your Veiled Vow. However, to do that, you’ll first need to build up your Bond and Favor level, and fortunately, there are a number of ways to do it.

How to Romance and Build Favor with Sana Chiba

There are four ways to romance and improve Favor with Sana Chiba in Rise of the Ronin: Bond Missions, Gifts, a Dojo battle, and Positive Discussion. Sana Chiba is slightly different from most other female romance options as a Dojo bout will increase Bond and Favor with her. Here are the Bond Missions where Sana features that will increase her affinity towards you.

  • Turmoil of the Heart
    • Unlocks after completing “Deadly Blade, Demon Belle” Main Mission
  • A Tempest Calmed
    • Unlocked in Chapter 3 (Return to Edo)

Positive Discussion

There are a few other ways to build Favor and Bond with Sana Chiba in Rise of the Ronin, and that is by having positive discussions, giving her gifts, and beating her in a Dojo fight.

After reaching an increased level of Favor and Bond with Sana Chiba, you will have the option to strike up a conversation with her. This conversation must happen in Chapter 2, and you will have to return to this period of time to have the conversation. Otherwise, you can’t make her your Veiled Vow.

I Must Know! – Chapter 2

The discussion is called “I must know!”, and begins with Sana mentioning a previous conversation she had with you regarding Ryoma and that she needs to accept who he is now. At this point, she is still swooning over Ryoma, and the idea of this conversation is to show that you are interested in her. She states, “I can’t help but wonder… What virtue do I possess that might make me worthy of him? I’ve given this a lot of thought, but have yet to come up with an answer… So I wonder if I might have better luck asking you, seeing as you two are so close. Tell me, what is my greatest virtue? I must know! Is there anything you find special about me?

Your response options are:

  • Your Dedication – Best Option
  • Your Beauty
  • Your Vulnerability

As always, there is no wrong answer here, and all choices will increase Bond and Favor with Sana Chiba. At this point, she is in love with your friend, so she will freak out a little if you mention beauty or vulnerability, but there are no negatives to choosing these options. But using the Testament of the Soul to return and choose the other options for more Bond and Favor is ideal.

Growing Together Conversation – After “A Tempest Calmed”

A second conversation opens up after you have completed the Bond Mission “A Tempest Calmed“. Sana wants to settle the score with you as she realizes that while she has become a more powerful fighter, you have as well, and she finds this intriguing. She states, “Truly, I’ve never faced anybody like you. And here I was thinking that I had grown stronger!

  • Don’t let it get to you.
  • You’re not the only one who’s grown stronger.

All answers increase Bond and Favor, but “You’re not the only one who’s grown stronger” is the better option. She then proceeds with the conversation and says, “Besides, I fully intend for our friendly rivalry to continue. May we always regard each other as rivals.”

  • Yes, may we stay together forever.
  • Just don’t fall behind.

All answers increase Bond and Favor, and this will be the first time that she indirectly acknowledges that she has some feelings towards you. I recommend using the Testament of the Soul to return to the conversation and pick different options each time. This will allow you to earn more Favor and Bond by choosing the option you didn’t originally choose and earn more rewards.

Favorite Gifts & Dojo Battle

Sana Chiba loves to test her strength and have a sweet treat, so the Azuki Bean Confection and Metal Training Club Consumables items are great gift choices for her. She will also react positively by receiving a Yew Koboku as she likes incense and plants.

Once you’ve increased your Favor bar with Sana hits max, you will receive a prompt to talk to her alone. This will then trigger a cutscene in which you’re given the option to say, “I love you, Sana“. Picking this option will make her your Veiled Vow. If you have any issues progressing your relationship with Sana, make sure you return to Chapter 2. You must have the conversation with her about Ryoma. Otherwise, you won’t be able to progress in your relationship, and you will not receive the prompt to make her your Veiled Vow.
