How to Save Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3

There is a process that players must follow to ensure Karlach lives throughout the Baldur’s Gate 3 campaign. Below are the prerequisites required to help out the companion:

  • Have Karlach in your party as a companion.
    • She can be found by either recruiting Wyll and progressing his quest or finding her at the Risen Road.
  • Find 2x Infernal Iron throughout the campaign.
    • Locations such as the Blighted Village and Zhentarim Hideout contain the material. Once you speak to Dammon, the locations will be highlighted on the map for you.
  • Take both Karlach and the Infernal Iron to Dammon, The Infernal Mechanic.
    • Act 1 Location: The Hollow, at coordinates X:178 and Y:563, to find him. Players must take out the Goblin Leaders in the “Save The Refugees” Questline to have Dammon survive and be of use.
    • Act 2 Location: Last Light Inn Horse Stables at the coordinates X:-33 and Y: 165.
    • Act 3 Location: Eastern section of Baldur’s Gate, at the Forge of the Nine.

Dammon is recognizable by being of a similar race to Karlach (Tiefling) and wearing smithing clothes. After earning enough resources and finding Dammon, players can repair Karlach’s infernal engine, allowing her to live, as it won’t overheat and destroy her. However, Karlach’s ultimate fate can still change depending on your actions in the game.

Which Endings Does Karlach Survive Through in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Here are all the available endings where Karlach will survive in Baldur’s Gate 3.

  • Return to Avernus (Wyll): Should players progress Wyll’s questline to making a deal to save his father, he will choose to become the Blade of Avernus, and both characters will head there together.
  • Return to Avernus (Player): Players will accompany Karlach to Avernus if they romance her.
  • Return to Avernus (Player and Wyll): A combination of both endings above, players must progress Wyll’s questline and romance Karlach.
  • Karlach Lives (Mine Flayer): Allow Karlach to become a Mind Flayer to defeat Orpheus. In this ending, she retains her personality and is free of the infernal engine.

While other endings involve Karlach, she does not survive them, unfortunately. Therefore, these are the best choices for players wanting a fate for her other than death. Now that you know how to save Karlach, check out the Game Hub for more information on Baldur’s Gate 3.
