What is Honkai: Star Rail?
Honkai: Star Rail is a new free-to-play turn-based role-playing game featuring gacha elements from the masterminds behind Genshin Impact. This highly anticipated science fiction fantasy experience from MiHoYo was officially released on April 26, 2023, after multiple successful closed beta tests. It is the 4th installment in the Honkai series and features many characters from Honkai Impact 3rd and gameplay elements from Genshin Impact.
You take control of a character known as the Trailblazer, who joins the crew members of the Astral Express, a magical train capable of traversing the galaxies, on an epic space adventure. The story takes place after the events of Impact 3rd, but you don’t need to have played through the previous game to understand the narrative in this one. The narrative revolves around you searching for answers and explanations after a mysterious device that grants you the immense power of destruction is implanted inside you.
What Platforms is Honkai: Star Rail on?
As of Version 1.0, Honkai: Star Rail is only available on phones and PC through MiHoYo’s own client or the Epic Games Store. The game is available to download now for free via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for mobile devices. If you’re wondering if the game is playable on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch consoles, the answer is no.
That being said, there has been an official announcement that the game would be coming soon to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, although no exact time is confirmed. Fans are guessing it would drop during Version 1.1, which would land sometime in June 2023. On the other hand, MiHoYo has no plans to port Honkai: Star Rail on Xbox or Nintendo Switch, which aligns with the way Genshin Impact was released.

Thankfully there is shared cross-progression across all platforms as your save data is tied to your MiHoYo account. This means you can play on your mobile device and then continue where you left off on your PC. So whenever the game releases on PlayStation consoles, you won’t need to start over.
