Kay Vess and her robot in Star Wars Outlaws

Star Wars Outlaws: Is it Multiplayer?

Star Wars Outlaws is the first open-world game set in the Star Wars universe, so it’s no surprise fans want to experience it together in multiplayer.

If you’ve been waiting for an open-world Star Wars game for some time, get in line. It’s the news of the century for Star Wars enthusiasts, especially as it’s coming from Massive Entertainment, whose track record for making immersive worlds set in pre-established universes is pretty perfect. However, if you were hoping to add a multiplayer cherry to that open-world cake, you may be a little disappointed.

Is Star Wars Outlaws Multiplayer?

No, Star Wars Outlaws is not multiplayer. You cannot play co-operatively with a friend or competitively against other players. It is a strictly single-player experience from start to finish. You will have your trusty companion Nix by your side, who will act in a similar capacity to BD-1 from the Star Wars Jedi series.

This may come as a surprise to many, especially considering both Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment’s multiplayer output and the fact that the game requires the internet to download the physical version. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, for example, was also developed by Massive Entertainment and featured co-op multiplayer. Similarly, Massive Entertainment’s main game, Tom Clancy’s The Divison, is an online-only multiplayer experience. However, it is worth noting that a lot of Ubisoft games, including other third-person story-focused open-world experiences such as the Assassin’s Creed games, typically don’t feature multiplayer.

Kay Vess and Nix in Star Wars Outlaws

Additionally, unlike The Division, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Far Cry, and other multiplayer Ubisoft games, Star Wars Outlaws doesn’t let you create your own character. You must play as the protagonist, Kay Vess, and experience her unique narrative. As much as we think it would be hilarious to see a bunch of Kay Vess running around, it doesn’t sound exactly immersive. So, if you were hoping that Star Wars Outlaws would feature some kind of multiplayer content, you’re out of luck. Fortunately, if you love single-player games, then you’re in luck. You win some, you lose some.
