Final Fantasy XIV: Full PvP Guide

If you’re looking to get into Final Fantasy XIV and want to try out the PvP aspect of the game, we’ve got you covered. Here’s everything you need to know.

Beyond the well-loved and acclaimed storyline and PvE adventures of Final Fantasy XIV is a lesser-known Player vs Player (PvP) arena. While players can’t use this game mode immediately, it’s definitely one to try out, as there’s nothing quite like it. So, if you’re interested and want to dip your feet in the deadly but fun PvP pool, we’ve got the guide for you.

How Do You Unlock PvP in Final Fantasy XIV?

To unlock PvP in Final Fantasy XIV, you must reach level 30. At this level, you’re eligible to embark on a pivotal quest that serves as your entryway into player-versus-player combat. The quest, known as “A Pup No Longer,” is waiting for you at your Grand Company headquarters, where it’s handed out to aspiring PvP champions who are ready to test their mettle.

Specifically, you must participate in training exercises that simulate actual PvP combat. These exercises are designed to familiarize you with the PvP mechanics, actions, and strategies unique to this play mode.

With this quest behind you, you must go to the Wolves’ Den Pier, a hub for all things PvP. With this area now accessible, you’ll have all the tools and resources necessary to dive deeper into PvP battles. Here, you can spend your hard-earned PvP currency on various items using the currencies “Wolf Marks” and “Trophy Crystals,” hone your combat skills against training dummies, and customize your PvP hotbars and actions to suit your battle style.

What Are the Different PvP Game Modes in FFXIV?

In Final Fantasy XIV, players can choose from three exciting PvP game modes, each offering a unique way to compete against others. These are:

Crystalline Conflict

This is like a tug-of-war with a crystal. Two teams of four players each fight to move a large crystal toward the enemy team’s base in a King of the Hill-style match. A team wins if it can push the crystal to the opposing team’s base or move it the closest when the five-minute timer ends. You can check out the official guide for it here.

Frontlines

This is a large battle where three teams, each with 24 players, clash over control of objectives on a large map. Depending on the map, teams might capture points, destroy objectives, or control areas to earn points. The first team to hit a certain score wins the match. Here are the various maps and their required objectives:

  • Seal Rock (Seize): Increase tactical rating by capturing and holding Allagan tomeliths. Tomeliths spawn randomly around the map and vanish once depleted.
  • The Fields of Glory (Shatter): Increase tactical rating by dealing damage to Icebound tomeliths. Tomeliths spawn randomly around the map and vanish once destroyed.
  • Onsal Hakair (Danshig Naadam): Increase tactical rating by claiming ovoos that randomly spawn on the map and vanish once claimed.
  • Teams also receive tactical rating points on each map by defeating other players in battle.

Rival Wings

This is inspired by MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games. In this mode, two teams of 24 players fight to destroy the enemy team’s core, which towers protect. Players can also control powerful machines to help attack the enemy base or defend their own. You can check out the official guide for it here.

Does Final Fantasy XIV PvP Have Rewards and Leaderboards?

In Final Fantasy XIV, as players take part in any PvP mode, they can level up their Series Level. Every time a new Series starts, players get a chance to earn rewards through Series Malmstones, and these rewards include special items like unique emotes, cool mounts, and stylish fashion accessories. Players can also get Trophy Crystals, which they can trade for various cosmetic items and materia.

Players who love competition can join ranked PvP matches to climb up the leaderboards and earn special rewards. These matches can only happen in the Crystalline Conflict game mode. Players fight to increase their rating and move through five different levels, from Bronze and go all the way to Crystal level. Every season, the ratings reset, and players get rewards based on how well they did. You can only play ranked matches in Crystalline Conflict.
