FFXIV: Dawntrail: Everything You Need to Know

The latest FFXIV expansion, Dawntrail, is on its way, and fans have been given a wealth of new information surrounding it and its upcoming features.

Final Fantasy 14 has had a number of exciting expansions, and its fifth and incredibly highly anticipated one, Dawntrail, is releasing soon. While Square Enix has released a lot of information surrounding the expansion since 2023, we have compiled all of the key information you’ll need to know before hopping into it.

FFXIV: Dawntrail Release Date & Price

Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail is being released on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. The Early Access period for it begins on Friday, June 28, 2024. It will cost you US$39.99/£29.99/AU$52.99 for the digital standard version and US$59.99/£44.99/AU$79.99 for the digital collectors edition. It is being released for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X|S. You can check the official release trailer below:

New Jobs

There are three new jobs being added in the FFXIV Dawntrail expansion. These are the Viper, Pictomancer, and Beastmaster. The first two will be available when the expansion releases, whereas the Beastmaster is a limited job coming in a future Dawntrail patch. Here’s what you need to know about these new jobs:

Viper

The Viper is a dual-wielding fighter that can combine their two weapons into one to deal more powerful blows. They use their agile speed and swift strikes to pummel their foes with their dual weapons before combining them to deal the killing blow. Additionally, they can call on the memories of ancient hunters contained within their soul crystal to become even more powerful for a short time. Watch the job trailer below for more details:

Pictomancer

The Pictomancer is a magical ranged DPS job that uses mixed aether alongside their specialized brush to bring their ideas to life. This includes creatures, weapons, and even landscapes. While their more powerful abilities will take some time to cast, they also have a range of instant-cast abilities and spells at hand to help in a pinch. Watch the job trailer below for more details:

New Playable Race

The FFXIV Dawntrail expansion is also adding in a brand-new playable race in the form of the Female Hrothgar. The Hrothgar, also known as Xbr’aal, are a Turali people. They originate from Ilsabard and call the vibrant and dense forest of Yak T’el their home. While female Hrothgar are uncommon within the species, they are easily identifiable by their lithe, muscular forms as well as their strong capabilities as leaders. New Locations

The FFXIV Dawntrail expansion is set on the continent of Tural and will feature a number of new locations, including the cities of Tuliyollal and Solution Nine. You will also get to explore several new areas, including:

  • The tropical region of Kozama’uka, famed for its many rivers, streams, and waterfalls.
  • The arid region of Shaaloani, spanning vast rain-starved plains across which a railroad is being constructed.
  • The mountainous region, Urqopacha.
  • The dense forest of Yak T’el.
  • Heritage Found, a region where thick thunderclouds block out the sun while streaks of purple levin illuminate the land day and night.

New Dungeons and Raids

There will be a number of new dungeons added in the FFXIV Dawntrail expansion, as well as a new Raid Series called The Arcadion. Players will be able to take part in a new Alliance Raid called Echoes of Vana’diel, which is a crossover series with Final Fantasy XI. Additional Updates

There are several other key updates coming in the FFXIV Dawntrail expansion, including the player level cap increasing from 90 to 100, and a huge graphical update that includes improvements to screen-wide aesthetic appeal, higher resolution textures and shadows, and an improvement to material qualities. Additionally, players can expect several Lifestyle content and other updates to be added, including:

  • Expansive New Lifestyle Content: Cosmic Exploration.
  • New Allied Tribes
    • The Pelupelu, who wear distinctive masks and inhabit Urqopacha
    • The Moblins, who reside in the jungles of Kozama’uka and bear a strong resemblance to the goblins with whom they share common ancestry.
  • New field operations akin to “The Forbidden Land, Eureka” and “Save the Queen”
  • Ongoing Content Update
    • This includes:
      • Blue Mage update
      • Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures
      • Bew plans for Deep Dungeons
      • Gold Saucer Update
