Dragon’s Dogma 2: Is the Performance Good on PC & Consoles?

If you’re worried about the performance of Dragon’s Dogma 2 on PC and consoles, don’t fret. We go through each version below.

After an almost 12-year wait, the highly anticipated sequel to Dragon’s Dogma has finally arrived for players to dive into. Dragon’s Dogma 2 has a lot going on: a densely packed open world, a dynamic AI system, and frantic emergent gameplay. With so much to juggle, you may wonder if the game can handle everything performance-wise, especially considering that early previews flagged its disappointing frame rates. Unfortunately, Dragon’s Dogma 2 seems to have a few performance issues wherever you choose to play it.

Is Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Performance Good?

No, the performance of Dragon’s Dogma 2 isn’t particularly good for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. That’s not to say the performance is terrible. However, the frame rate will sometimes fluctuate and dip as low as 30 FPS in more demanding scenarios. All three game versions have an unlocked framerate ranging from 30-45 FPS across PC and consoles.

Despite giving players a wider choice of options, PC users seem to get the short end of the stick. Dragon’s Dogma 2 isn’t well optimized, meaning you’ll need the most modern CPUs and graphics cards for a stable performance. This is especially true if you want to play at higher resolutions. Even the most competent PC setups will likely struggle as the framerate can drop to 30 FPS (and sometimes below) in frantic combat scenarios and in town. This will most likely improve with future patches, but it’s not a great place to be at launch.

Performance on consoles share a similar story. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the framerate lies between 30-40 FPS, with a tendency to be on the lower end of that scale. Thankfully, the Xbox Series S is similar to the Series X in terms of frame rate, only faring slightly worse than its beefier bigger brother. However, the Series S resolution only renders at a maximum of 1440p compared to the PS5’s and Xbox Series X’s superior 2160p. Wherever you decide to play, the framerate becomes widely inconsistent when entering densely packed towns where a lot is going on.

Based on the above, we’d recommend getting Dragon’s Dogma 2 on either PS5 or Xbox Series X if you can. This is because the performance seems similar to that of PC without its poorer optimization. In any case, we hope Capcom addresses these performance issues for all platforms in future updates. That’s it for Dragon’s Dogma 2’s performance on PC and consoles.
