Character in Dragon's Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2: What Is a Moniker?

Players will need to pick a Moniker alongside their name in Dragon’s Dogma 2. However, it can be hard to choose one when you don’t know what it’s for.

When customizing your character in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll be asked to choose a name and a Moniker. For many, it won’t be immediately clear what a Moniker is, as it’s not something players usually have to pick in video games. Quite literally, a moniker just means a name or a nickname. However, it takes a slightly different meaning in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

What Is a Moniker in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

A Moniker in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a name that is displayed to other players in the Rift if your chosen name is too inappropriate. So, if your name doesn’t meet the game’s profanity filters and is therefore blocked when in the Rift (the online area where other players can see you and your Pawn), your Moniker will be displayed instead.

You can choose absolutely anything for your name in Dragon’s Dogma 2, from the mundane to the most inappropriate. When you enter the Rift to get new Pawns, players will be able to see your name, your created Pawn’s name, as well as your Steam, Xbox Live, or PlayStation ID. However, if you’ve picked something inappropriate, the game will replace your name in this setting with your Moniker.

You’ll be able to tell if someone else has an inappropriate name if their name in the Rift pops up as something generic or is based on another Capcom game, such as Okami or Monster Hunter. There is also a parental control feature, which you can enable in the options menu. This will replace even more inappropriate names with your chosen Moniker.

So, ultimately, your Moniker isn’t all that important, especially if you’ve chosen a fairly neutral name. However, as you have no idea whether Capcom’s strict profanity filter will flag your name, it’s best to choose a Moniker that you actually like and wouldn’t mind other players seeing. That’s everything you need to know about Monikers in Dragon’s Dogma 2. For more guides just like this one, be sure to check out our Guide Hub.
