Dragon’s Dogma 2 Has A Shocking Framerate

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is supposed to have an uncapped framerate, but recent playtests reveal it’s frequently dropping below 30 FPS.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 was recently confirmed to have an uncapped framerate with a minimum threshold of 30 FPS during an interview with the game director, Hideaki Itsuno. However, after a recent preview test, it seems that the game’s performance is significantly worse than players were perhaps expecting.

Is 30 FPS The Average Framerate of Dragon’s Dogma 2?

After a preview gameplay test, the average framerate of Dragon’s Dogma 2 seems to run at 30-31 FPS. The details come from a recent IGN video detailing a final gameplay showing that the performance hovered around the 30 FPS range.

This is odd, however, as the game has no cap on framerate. It may have been believed that the graphics could push up to around 60 FPS. Note that the final impressions video was conducted on a preview build of the game and was not run in performance mode. Therefore, the performance may change when the game releases on Friday, March 22, 2024.

The concept of preview tests running at a lower-quality framerate is nothing new. When many developers showcase their games, they usually run on an older game build. Doing so allows the game to be presented to a broader audience without wasting time. Also, the developers do not need to worry about qualities in the preview that can be fixed, added, or adjusted before the title releases. Whether or not the frame rate will go up with its final release is unknown until it launches.
