Dragon’s Dogma 2: Can You Play It on the Steam Deck?

With Dragon’s Dogma 2’s release date just around the corner, many fans of the hit action RPG series will want to know if they can play it on the Steam Deck.

At launch, Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be available for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. As a giant RPG in a vast and sprawling open world, many Steam Deck owners are eager to know if they can take Capcom’s much-anticipated sequel out for a spin while out and about. After all, playing on a handheld would surely be one of the most ideal ways to take on the game’s countless emergent side quests and plethora of mystical beasts roaming the map.

Can You Play Dragon’s Dogma 2 on the Steam Deck?

Yes, you can play Dragon’s Dogma 2 on the Steam Deck. However, do note that it does not currently have a Steam Deck rating. This is expected to change when it is released. While we expect it to run and be playable, it might come with a few setbacks.

Dragon’s Dogma 2’s minimum requirements for PC seem to have fairly demanding graphics requirements, which may push the Steam Deck to its limits. Even though the Steam Deck generally has better optimization than traditional GPUs, players may have to crank the game’s settings to low to get the best performance.

It’s worth noting that the original game (including its expansion), Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, takes up a comfortable 20 GB and runs incredibly well on the Steam Deck. It can reach a buttery smooth 60 FPS with no issue and is fully Verified on the system. That’s a good sign for the sequel, especially as Capcom is known for optimizing their games for the Deck.

However, Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be a much more demanding game than its predecessor, which came out almost twelve years ago. According to players who got their hands on a preview build of the game, Dragon’s Dogma 2 could only hit a max frame cap of about 30 FPS, even on the latest generation consoles. Although not the best sign, we imagine Capcom will do its best to make Dragon’s Dogma 2 at least playable when it releases.

Until the game comes out on Friday, March 22, we won’t know for sure if it’ll run well on the Steam Deck. We’ll update this article when we know more. Until then, be sure to check out our Guide Hub here for everything else on Dragon’s Dogma 2.
