Baldur’s Gate 3 offers hundreds of hours of content, and yet fans are eager for DLC. Unfortunately, it looks like their wishes aren’t coming true.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock or are allergic to CRPGs, then you’ve almost certainly heard of, or more likely actually played Baldur’s Gate 3. If you’ve sunk any time into its rich fantasy world, chances are you’ve hoped the adventure would never end. That’s where DLC comes in, which fans hope will further expand upon the game’s narrative, characters, and locations. However, if you’ve wished that BG3 will get an expansion in the near future, then you’re sadly out of luck.
Is Baldur’s Gate 3 Getting An Expansion?
No, Baldur’s Gate 3 is not getting DLC ever. This has been officially confirmed by the developer, Larian Studios, who has stated firmly that DLC is not happening. During the 2024 GDC event, Larian Studios founder Swen Vicke told fans that there would not be any DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3, nor would there be a Baldur’s Gate 4. He confirmed that they have moved on to developing another game that has nothing to do with the Dungeons & Dragons brand.
This is, of course, contrary to statements the studio had made only a few months earlier. Larian’s Senior Product Manager, Tom Butler, spoke with IGN about the game getting an expansion. He said that while they intend to continue “patching for a while,” they want to add more content later on. You can read his full quote below:
“We’ll carry on patching for a while and then we’re all going to take a holiday and then we’ll figure out what we do next. But at the moment, we genuinely have discussions. We want to do more. We don’t know what yet.”

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like his words ring true anymore now that Vicke has shot down any potential for DLC. Of course, it’s worth noting that minor DLC has been released for Baldur’s Gate 3, albeit in the form of significant free updates. For example, a whole new finale was added to the game for Karlarch after fans criticized her original ending. Unfortunately, if you were hoping for something a bit more substantial, then you’re out of luck. For now, you’ll just have to enjoy the game’s enormous campaign.
