Tactical JRPG fans have much to look forward to when Unicorn Overlord releases in just a few days. Many are so eager to play it that they want to know if the trusty tried-and-true New Zealand trick will allow them to play the game a bit earlier than expected. The trick allows players to switch regions to New Zealand so that they can access games ahead of time as they release in this time zone first. Below, we discuss whether you can use this trick to play Unicorn Overlord early.

Does the New Zealand Trick Work With Unicorn Overlord?

Yes, the New Zealand trick will work for Unicorn Overlord, as it will release locally on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on Friday, March 8, 2024. This means that it will release first in New Zealand, roughly 13 hours earlier than in the UK and 18 hours earlier than in the US.

Vanillaware has not revealed an official release time, but going by their previous releases, we can safely assume that Unicorn Overlord will follow suit. For example, Vanillaware’s last game, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, released at midnight local time on September 22, 2020.

It’s a little more complicated for PS4 and PS5 players as they will need to switch their region and then buy it through the New Zealand storefront. If you want to play the game early on Nintendo Switch, you must change the region of your console and your account to New Zealand, restart the eShop app, and then purchase the game with New Zealand Dollars.
