Four characters in Rise of the Ronin

Rise of the Ronin: Is it Co-Op?

Rise of the Ronin looks set to be the next best open-world experience, so naturally players are wondering if they can play it with their friends in co-op.

It’s true that most, if not all, games are better with friends. After all, there’s nothing like hopping on a call with a mate or two and blasting bad guys until you realize it’s 3 am and you’ve got work the next day. This is true of open-world games, as exploring massive expanses, such as Rise of the Ronin’s huge recreation of Bakamatsu era Japan, is better with an ally by your side. Fortunately, if you were hoping to hop, glide, and zip about Rise of the Ronin’s world in co-op, you’re absolutely in luck.

Does Rise of the Ronin Have Co-Op?

Yes, Rise of the Ronin allows for up to four players to play co-op online. You can complete the entire game’s story missions together with up to three friends. However, there is absolutely no PvP in Rise of the Ronin. Players can only help each other in Rise of the Ronin and complete missions cooperatively.

This was all confirmed via the game’s official FAQ page, which states, “Yes. Rise of the Ronin allows up to three players to experience the game’s story missions together in online co-op.” However, it’s also worth noting that you will need a PlayStation Plus membership in order to play co-op. Of course, if you play solo, you won’t need it.

Each player will create their own character that they’ll then bring into one player’s instanced world. It’s not clear if any progression players make in one player’s game will carry over into their own. We’ll be sure to update this article when more information is announced.
