Is Project Mugen A Gacha Game?

Project Mugen looks to transport players to a beautiful new world, but questions about gacha features have been raised.

The open-world RPG by NetEase Games is gaining a lot of attention, especially with the news that the game is not only free-to-play but also launching on PlayStation 4/5, PC, and mobile devices. As the game has a growing online community, many have begun to wonder if, because it is a free-to-play game, a gacha system is going to have a big presence in the game.

What is Project Mugen?

Project Mugen is a game developed by NetEase Games, with a mix of Cyberpunk 2077 and Genshin Impact. The game is an open-world RPG set in a dense urban world where the player is a character known as an “Esper.” The goal is to ensure that the world is protected from all who threaten it. Players will team up with other Espers to restore order to the urban world and stop the evil permanently.

The game’s setting is a breathtaking concrete jungle with different districts to explore and fight in, both in the day and night, the city changes. All the while, players can explore and discover quests and side quests to open up the lore of the world and figure out how to stop the chaos that is sweeping through.

Does Project Mugen Have Gacha Elements?

As the game is shaping up to be a vast RPG with plenty of content, part of its success is dependent on whether or not the game is likely to feature any sort of gacha system. We can safely predict that due to the game being free-to-play and featuring characters that can have different stats, gacha mechanics will be present and function similarly to that of Genshin Impact or Honkai Star Rail.

However, Project Mugen is looking to be a standout among its peers and loot boxes can be earned through earning in-game currency and purchasing them that way. Given the size of what the game offers and the work going into it, there could be plenty of ways to earn currency in the game in order to get character rolls.

As more information is released about Project Mugen, the article will be updated to reflect the new details.
