Helldivers 2’s Automatons Are Back With Massive Invasion Fleet

Just two days after Super Earth’s grand victory over the Automatons in Helldivers 2, the terrifying bot faction has retaliated by sending a huge Invasion Fleet to Super Earth-controlled territory.

This invasion came sooner than expected for most Helldivers 2 players. They barely got to savor their hard-earned victory before the issue of a whole new Automaton defense order. It’s no surprise that the Automatons were going to come back in some capacity, but many did not expect such a swift return. It turns out there’s an in-universe reason for the bot retaliation. It could tell us what to expect in the fight ahead.

Automatons Are at It Again

Only two short days after a hard-won victory over the Automatons, a Major Order has popped up urging players to defend against a new bot threat. The Automatons have taken arms across a number of planets in the Valdis Sector on the Galaxy Map. Super Earth is on the back foot; it’s up to valiant Helldivers to push them back yet again. The new invasion was announced over on the official Helldivers 2 X (formerly Twitter) page.

The post mentions that the “previous Bot force was merely a vanguard”. Apparently, the “real” Automaton threat is now in the Vladis, Lacaille, and Hyrda sectors. The Vladis sector is under complete Automaton control, with the passive Cyborg homeworld of Cyberstan completely overtaken. Players must defend the adjacent planets within the Lacaille and Hydra sectors, lest the pesky robots make their way to Super Earth.

A “High Priority Broadcast” in-game describes a massive Automaton Invasion Fleet “comprising tens of thousands of warships”. It calls all Helldivers “to deploy immediately to the defense.” According to the broadcast, the new Automaton forces “dwarf” the previous Automaton armies and is their “true force.” This is all very unsettling, especially considering how difficult the Automaton enemies can be when playing on higher difficulties. When factoring in some of the newly spotted Automaton enemies, such as Factory Striders and Gunships, players are set to have quite the task ahead of them if they want to push them back.

Thankfully, it seems that some new Stratagems may be on the way to help, according to the Catalog Expansion Ship Module upgrade that seemed to drop into the game early. Players will also soon be able to get their hands on some powerful new weapons and equipment as part of the upcoming Democratic Detonation Premium Warbond to add even more firepower to their arsenal.
