Helldivers 2: How to Get GP-31 Grenade Pistol & Is It Worth It?

Helldivers 2’s latest Premium Warbond gives players access to the GP-31 Grenade Pistol, but is it as useful as it sounds? Read on to discover how to unlock it and whether it’s worth it!

Helldivers 2 has released a handful of hit-or-miss Premium Warbonds since launch. For example, the Liberator Explosive from the Steeled Veterans Warbond is one of the worst weapons in the game. In contrast, the more recent LAS-16 Sickle from Cutting Edge is one of the best primary weapons you can get your hands on. Despite being a mixed bag, many are eager to know whether or not the most recent Democratic Detonation Warbond is worth the Super Credits. In particular, fans are especially intrigued by the GP-31 Grenade Pistol. On paper, it is similar to its full-fledged Grenade Launcher counterpart but only takes a Secondary Weapon slot. But is it worth spending your Medals to take with you in the field?

Helldivers 2: How to Unlock the GP-31 Grenade Pistol

To unlock the GP-31 Grenade Pistol in Helldivers 2, you must first purchase the Democratic Detonation Warbond for 1,000 Super Credits. Then, in the Democratic Detonation Warbond menu, you must purchase it for 60 Medals. You can find the GP-31 Grenade Pistol on page three of the Democratic Detonation Warbond menu screen. To reach the final page of this Premium Warbond, you’ll need to spend a significant amount of medals on the first two pages. This may take a while!

There are a few ways you can get Super Credits in Helldivers 2. They are:

  • Purchase them with real money in the Acquisitions Center menu
  • Unlock them with Medals within the Warbonds (Premium and Free) menu
  • Find them at Minor Points of Interest while exploring the map in-game
    • You can find them by unlocking and breaking open sealed pods, locked containers, and bunkers
    • You can usually find between 10-20 Super Credits using this method, and you don’t need to extract with them

Is the GP-31 Grenade Pistol Worth it in Helldivers 2?

Yes, the GP-31 Grenade Pistol is definitely worth the asking price in Helldivers 2. As you might expect, the Grenade Pistol packs an explosive punch that acts very similarly to the Grenade Launcher Stratagem. It works brilliantly for clearing groups of smaller enemies and for one-shotting Terminid nests and Automaton Fabricators.

However, unlike the Grenade Launcher, the GP-31 Grenade Pistol can only fire one round at a time. You will need to reload after every shot. This also means you will need to pick your shots wisely, lest you get overwhelmed with swarms of enemies. It works better as a support weapon to hit weak spots and clear out densely packed groups of smaller enemies from a distance.

As the GP-31 Grenade Pistol is a Secondary Weapon, it allows you to bring other Stratagems that can further supplement your build. However, it’s important to note that replenishing ammo for it works similarly to your Grenades. Regular ammo boxes will only give you back one round for the Grenade Pistol, while Supply Boxes will give you two.

Despite this, bringing along a Grenade Pistol frees up our Grenade slot for something more tactical, such as Stun or Smoke Grenades. With this in mind, the Grenade Pistol grants you more access to build versatility and can help you deal with most situations in the field. That is for the GP-31 Grenade Pistol in Helldivers 2!
