Hades 2 may fall into the roguelike genre, but does this story-heavy adventure feature multiplayer or co-op? Here’s what you need to know.
Roguelikes are often best played with a friend, either in local or online co-op. When we think of great roguelikes, we instantly think of the likes of Enter the Gungeon, Risk of Rain 2, and, of course, Hades. The first two of those feature co-op, but Hades never had it implemented. So, it’s no wonder that fans of the sequel are wondering if it has multiplayer. After all, there’s nothing quite like taking out some challenging bosses with a friend by your side.
Does Hades 2 Have Multiplayer Co-Op?
No, Hades 2 is not multiplayer, nor does it have any co-op elements. You cannot play or compete with your friends. Unfortunately, despite the game being in Early Access, Supergiant Games, the developer of Hades 2, has expressly stated that it will not be implementing multiplayer. In a blog post about the game, under the section asking whether it will be getting multiplayer functionality, Supergiant Games explains, “We have no plans for multiplayer, as we are creating the gameplay and narrative of Hades II with a solo experience in mind.”
Of course, it is to be expected. After all, the original game, Hades, also lacked any form of multiplayer content. Both games are focused on delivering a meaningful narrative experience, something that is relatively difficult to maintain if you have a friend running around being a goof while you’re playing. We do not expect Supergiant to change its stance on this across the game’s Early Access phase.
So, if you were hoping to play Hades 2 with a buddy and were perhaps waiting until it came out of Early Access to do this, you’re out of luck.
