Romance was an interesting feature of the original Dragon’s Dogma. In that game, there was the Beloved system, which let you increase your affinity with almost every named NPC. Essentially, you could romance just about anyone, making for a comprehensive yet slightly underbaked feature. Fortunately, romance is returning in Dragon’s Dogma 2, and it’s even more complex this time around.
Are There Romancable Characters in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
Yes, there are romancable characters in Dragon’s Dogma 2. You will be able to romance almost every named NPC, regardless of gender, including the main characters Ulrika, Brant, Wilhemina, and Doireann. Romancing characters works by increasing your affinity with them. This is done in a multitude of ways, such as by completing missions for them, giving them items such as the Heartfelt Pendant, and simply talking to them.
There is also a jealousy system, which means that if a character you’re romancing finds out you’re romancing another, they’ll get angry. Developer Hideaki Itsuno confirmed this in an interview with IGN. In that interview, he said, “A character who grows close to you might come over to your house to play, but if they meet another character there who’s done the same thing, a fight might break out.” You can even earn an achievement for making this happen.
It’s also worth noting that there is sex in the game. According to the official ESRB rating for Dragon’s Dogma 2, “Players’ character can interact with sex workers, exchanging currency for services.” However, it has not been confirmed whether you can have sex with the NPCs you choose to romance.
