Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection brings the original shooters to next-gen; however, its launch has not gone well.
Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection was hotly-anticipated by many after its announcement during the Nintendo Direct in February. The collection promised to bring back the nostalgia and fun that many experienced when it was first released back on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox but with the addition of online multiplayer. However, when the game launched on March 14, 2024, bugs, poor performance, and a terrible online offering resulted in an awful launch that caused an uproar among players.
How Was The Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection Launch Bad?
The Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection has many issues with launch, including low server numbers, numerous visual and audio bugs, online connection issues, and much more. The game was advertised as allowing players to play online through cross-gen play. However, during the game’s launch, players could not even play due to constant disconnects or extremely high ping. Additionally, as there were only a small amount of servers, many were stuck waiting for their turn to play.
Currently, on the game’s official Steam page, it sits at a 19% score with Overwhelmingly Negative reviews. According to one user on Reddit, their save files have even been corrupting, preventing them from playing. This has, naturally, led many to ask for refunds until fixes are made to the game.
It’s worth noting that the developer, Aspyr, has responded in an official blog post of its own. In the post, it addressed the launch issues as well as many bugs. Furthermore, it goes on to detail that it will be continuing to patch and work on fixes for the game to ensure it provides the optimal experience to players. It also encourages players to identify bugs or gameplay issues by sending reports to its Support Request form.
As time passes, it will be interesting to see if the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection can turn around. However, until then, we’ll have to wait and see.
