Skull and Bones Land Combat

Skull and Bones: Is there Hand-to-Hand or Land Combat?

Skull and Bones is one of Ubisoft’s most ambitious titles in recent years, and while there is an abundance of naval battles, many are wondering if the game features any hand-to-hand or melee combat in the game.

A memorable aspect of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is its naval combat, which set the foundation for Skull and Bones. The game was initially envisioned as an expansion of the game but soon turned into a bigger project than was originally anticipated. While Black Flag featured hand-to-hand combat, being a mainline Assassin’s Creed title, a reoccurring question is whether Skull and Bones will receive the same treatment.

Is there Hand-to-Hand Combat in Skull and Bones?

Unfortunately, there is no hand-to-hand combat in Skull and Bones. Players cannot wield any typical pirate weapons such as a sword or pistol. However, you can use a spear on your dhow to attack animals.

Furthermore, there are only limited interactions on land, and most of the game will take place at sea. Even when you want to dock, the player character will teleport on the land after a button press. When outside of a boat, there are basic cooking and NPC interactions, but most quests will be completed on a ship. While this might not provide the greatest pirate experience, there might be some hope in the future if this element is a dealbreaker on whether or not you want to purchase the game.

Will There Ever Be Hand-to-Hand Land Combat in Skull and Bones?

It is unlikely that there will be hand-to-hand or land combat in Skull and Bones, as this is not mentioned in their first-year roadmap, but there might be some hope. At this point, hand-to-hand combat will be limited to attacking animals from your dhow with a spear. With this feature already being available, we remain hopeful that land-based weapons will be added in the future alongside additional activities to transform the game into the leading pirate experience.

That’s everything you need to know about hand-to-hand land combat. You can view our Guide Hub for more articles on Skull and Bones, and make sure you check out the game for yourself during the Open Beta.
