Ryoma Sakamoto in Rise of the Ronin

Rise of the Ronin: How to Stop Ryoma From Dying

If you’re trying to get the Twilight Fencer trophy in Rise of the Ronin, you’ll need to know how to save Ryoma Sakamoto. Fortunately, it’s not too difficult.

You’ll need to do quite a lot in order to unlock Rise of the Ronin’s platinum trophy. One trophy, Twilight Fencer, requires you to save Ryoma. However, the game does not make it clear how you’re supposed to pull off this miracle. Fortunately, we’ve explained all the steps you need to take in order to ensure Ryoma survives.

How to Save Ryoma in Rise of the Ronin

To save Ryoma’s life in Rise of the Ronin, you will have to complete his first four Bond Missions before starting The Omi Inn Incident main mission. If you do not complete these missions, he will die during The Omi Inn Incident mission. You’ll unlock Ryoma’s first Bond Mission automatically as you progress through the story. Once you’ve completed it, the others will unlock sequentially. You do not need to complete all of his Bond Missions in order to save him, only the first four. These missions are:

  • The Men from Tosa
  • The Two Apprentices
  • A House Divided
  • The Ties That Bind

Once you’ve completed these, you can then start The Omi Inn Incident main mission without worrying about him dying. You’ll need to help him fend off enemies that are attacking the Inn and then defeat your Blade Twin in a boss fight. Once you’ve done this, a cutscene will play, and if you completed those Bond Missions, he’ll survive. You’ll then unlock the Twilight Fencer trophy for your efforts.

Of course, if you have already done the quest and Ryoma has died, don’t worry. You can use the Testament of the Soul at a Longhouse in order to go back to before the mission. That way, you can complete his Bond Missions and try again. That’s everything you need to know about saving Ryoma and unlocking the Twilight Fencer trophy.
