Pokemon Go is celebrating the launch of Detective Pikachu Returns on Nintendo Switch by releasing a limited-time event for all players.
As you may have guessed, the event will shine a light on Pikachu, and allow players to catch Pikachu with a snazzy detective hat. Here are all the details you need:

When is the Pokemon Go: Detective Pikachu Event?
The Pokemon Go: Detective Pikachu event will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 10:00 am to Monday, October 9, 2023 at 8:00 pm in your local timezone.
This means people in New Zealand will have access to the event almost a day before those in the United States.
Wild Encounters
These are the event Pokemon that will appear more frequently in the wild:
- Pikachu wearing a detective hat (Shiny Available)
- Growlithe (Shiny Available)
- Slowpoke wearing a hat (Shiny Available)
- Alolan Exeggutor (Shiny Available)
- Magikarp (Shiny Available)
- Xatu (Shiny Available)
- Bellossom (Shiny Available)
- Lotad (Shiny Available)
- Chimecho (Shiny Available)
- Bronzor (Shiny Available)
- Ducklett
- Cutiefly
- Falinks
It’s important to note that Pikachu can evolve into Raichu and still keep the detective hat.
Field Research Task Encounters and Collection Challenge
With every event in Pokemon Go, there are limited-time Field Research. Completing these Tasks will reward you with the following Pokemon:
- Sudowoodo (Shiny Available)
- Snivy (Shiny Available)
- Rowlet
Finishing these tasks will count towards an event-themed Collection Challenge.
Event Bonuses
The following event bonuses will be available during the Detective Pikachu Event in Pokemon Go:
- Surprise encounters with Pikachu wearing a detective hat once per day by taking snapshots.
- 2× XP for spinning PokeStops during the event.
Detective Pikachu Returns Event Timed Research
During the event, Trainers can participate in a Timed Research Story where they must assist Professor Willow in tracking down a “Pokemon of interest”. Upon completion, Trainers will earn an encounter with Pikachu wearing a detective hat.
However, it’s important to note that the Timed Research will expire, and tasks must be completed and their rewards claimed before Monday, October 9, 2023, at 8:00 pm local time.
New Avatar Pose
Players who want to channel their inner detective can purchase the Detective Pikachu Avatar Pose, available in the store beginning on October 5, 2023.
