PlayStation Portal Features

DualSense Controller Features

The PlayStation Portal incorporates the same trademark features of the DualSense wireless controller for PlayStation 5. This includes adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. Additionally, parts of the screen have touch-responsive aspects to simulate the same functionality of the DualSense controller’s touchpad.

High-Quality Display

The PlayStation Portal boasts an 8-inch LCD screen, offering 1080p resolution at 60fps. Sony has heavily advertised this as being important, as it ensures a high level of visual clarity that will meet the standards expected from gamers and developers.

Remote Connectivity

The PlayStation Portal is designed to connect to their PS5 over Wi-Fi, allowing easy transition from console to portable play. The handheld is an extension of your PlayStation, ensuring you can continue playing your games from any other room.

Game Compatibility

The device supports playing games installed on the PS5 console using the DualSense controller. However, PS VR2 games requiring a headset are not supported.

Audio Options

The handheld device has its own speakers but also contains a 3.5mm audio jack for wired audio. Bluetooth is not supported for audio purposes, but players can use the new PlayStation link functionality to connect new Pulse Explore and Pulse Elite headsets.

Compatibility Requirements

While offering a convenient way to stream PS5 games, the PlayStation Portal has certain limitations. It requires a stable broadband internet Wi-Fi connection, with a minimum speed of 5Mbps, though 15Mbps is recommended for a smoother experience. A PS5 console with an active PlayStation Network account is essential, and the console must be online, either fully powered on or in Rest Mode and paired with the Portal device.

Additionally, games that require the use of a VR headset (like PlayStation VR or PlayStation VR2) or any additional peripherals beyond a DUALSHOCK 4, DualSense, or DualSense Edge wireless controller are not compatible with this remote player.
