What is Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon?

Originally released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is the perfect game for a remaster. Being the sequel to the much beloved GameCube game Luigi’s Mansion, it elevates a lot of what made that game great. Instead of playing as the usual main hero Mario, you play as his titular brother as he ventures out on his own journey.

In Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Luigi is sent by Professor E. Gadd to explore abandoned mansions with the upgraded Poltergust 5000, a specialised ghostbusting vacuum cleaner. From here, you can tackle one of five different mansions to retrieve the shards of the Dark Moon, pacifying ghosts, and rescuing Mario from King Boo.

Originally being an entry during Nintendo’s Year of Luigi, the game truly showed off the power of the 3DS. By working with the limitations of the console and utilising the 3D capabilities, developer Next Level Games was able to create an experience that was able to draw in new players while appealing to the old.
