Leviathan is one of the most famous and iconic summons in the Final Fantasy franchise, so fans are wondering if this legendary beast makes an appearance in the recently released Final Fantasy 16.
There have been many references from promotional trailers and artworks that hint at the presence of Leviathan, so it makes sense for Leviathan to be in the game.
Is Leviathan in Final Fantasy 16?
Unfortunately, despite showing up on the Collector’s Edition box, Leviathan is not in Final Fantasy 16 and does not show up in the main story at all.
Out of the eight referenced Eikons — Final Fantasy 16’s version of summons —, Leviathan is the only one that does not make an appearance.
As you progress through the main story, you will encounter each of the other seven Eikons (and their Dominants) and inherit their abilities, except for the ancient sea creature.
Leviathan is, however, referenced in murals and pictures across the game, and presented as Leviathan the Lost, meaning it is unknown who the Dominant of Leviathan really is.

Leviathan May Come in Future FF16 DLC
It is possible that Leviathan might show up in future downloadable content to expand the game’s narrative and lore.
Although, Final Fantasy 16 has no current DLC plans, as stated by producer Naoki Yoshida in an interview with Game Informer.
We have no idea if people are going to fall in love with Valisthea and fall in love with Clive’s story and want to see more of the world and more of its characters. So while we always want to consider DLC or spinoffs or those types of things where you can learn more about the game, first we want to see if Valisthea and Clive are really things players around the world want to see more of and then make that decision.

So there always remains a slight possibility for some new content down the road, but don’t expect any given what’s already been said. The absence of the legendary sea dragon Leviathan will remain a mystery until Square Enix officially sheds light on the topic.
