Helldivers 2: How to Join a Public Game

Want to buddy up with some new friends in a Helldivers 2 public game? Of course you do, and here’s how.

Helldivers 2 lets you gun down hordes of robots or bugs with a bunch of friends. Naturally, this will be how most people play the game. However, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of grouping up with a bunch of strangers and diving headfirst into a bug-infested warzone. Fortunately, Helldivers 2 lets you join public matches, allowing you to experience this joy for yourself. Below, we explain exactly how you do it.

How to Join a Public Game in Helldivers 2

To join a public game in Helldivers 2, you must change your Matchmaking Privacy setting to public and then join a Quickplay game via the Galactic War console in the War Room of your ship. You join a Quickplay game by pressing Square (PlayStation) or clicking Quickplay above the difficulty setting at the bottom of the map screen.

Once you’ve selected Quickplay, you’ll be informed that it’s “searching for active SOS beacons”, after which you’ll join a game. You’ll then select your loadout and head into the match. You won’t have to pick a specific mission, select a planet, or even an enemy faction. Below, we’ve broken down the exact steps for how to join a public game:

  • Change your Matchmaking Privacy setting to public
    • This is found under the Gameplay settings in Options
  • Go to the Galatic War console and select Quickplay (Square on PlayStation)
  • Wait until you join a game

It’s as simple as that. You’ll get to choose your loadout and see your teammates before you dive into the mission, so you won’t need to prep any of that beforehand. Additionally, you may want to consider setting your mic settings to public so your teammates can communicate with you. That’s everything you need to know about joining a public match in Helldivers 2.
