Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: How to Upgrade Your Weapons

Your weapons are upgraded in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but it doesn’t quite work the same as in Remake. Here’s how you upgrade your weapons.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake had a pretty straightforward upgrade system when it came to your characters’ weapons. In that game, you went into an upgrade screen, selected which ones you wanted, and spent the necessary SP to get them. However, things work a little differently in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, as weapon upgrades are more out of your hands. Below, we explain exactly how weapon upgrades work.

How to Upgrade Weapons in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Weapons are automatically upgraded in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth when you gain enough SP. There is no way to manually upgrade your weapons. When a character has earned enough SP, their Weapon Level will increase, and all of their weapons will unlock a new Weapon Skill and Stat Boost. Any new Weapon Skill must be manually equipped, and can be located in the Weapons Upgrade screen. Meanwhile, Stat Boosts are a passive bonus, such as Attack +4 or additional Weapon Skill or Materia slots.

It’s worth noting that you can only equip as many Weapon Skills as you have Weapon Skill slots. In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, additional Weapon Skill slots are unlocked every few Weapon Levels, so you’ll need to wait before you can start equipping all of your Weapon Skills. This also applies to equipping new Materia. Of course, this functions much like it did in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, although in that game, you had more control over when you unlocked additional slots.

You can increase a character’s Weapon Level by using Skill Books, but if you want to keep every character’s Weapon Levels the same, then you should avoid doing so. Otherwise, just keep playing the game, and your Weapon Levels will increase automatically. The more you grind enemies, the more SP you’ll earn. That’s everything you need to know about weapon upgrades. For more guides just like this one, be sure to check out our Guide Hub.
