Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Can You Transfer Your Save From Remake?

Will all of that time sunk into playing Remake be wasted when it comes to starting Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, or can you transfer your save? Here’s what you need to know.

It’s likely that most people who are picking up Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will have played Remake. After all, canonically, the events of Remake happen before Rebirth and offer important context to the sequel. So, it would only make sense that the 40+ hours you sunk into Remake wouldn’t have been for nothing. Unfortunately, if you were hoping to transfer all of your progress from one game to the other, you may be a little disappointed.

Does Your Final Fantasy 7 Remake Save Transfer to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

No, you cannot transfer your save from Remake to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. All of your progress, including level, gear, materia, and new weapons, cannot be transferred from Remake to Rebirth. Everyone will have to start from scratch at the beginning of Rebirth.

This was done in an attempt to put all players on the same footing, ensuring that newcomers wouldn’t feel left out for not having played Remake. Ostensibly, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth should be completely playable without having touched Remake or the original game. This has been confirmed by the developers, who wanted to ensure that Rebirth was kept as a standalone experience.

However, it is worth noting that if you do have save data from either the PS4 or PS5 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, you do unlock the Leviathan summon materia in Rebirth. Additionally, if you have save data from the Episode Intermission DLC, you’ll get the Ramuh summon materia. That’s everything you need to know about transferring your save data to Rebirth.
