Everything Announced at PlayStation’s July 2021 State of Play

Sony Interactive Entertainment released another State of Play today, focusing on the upcoming Deathloop and a few other highly-anticipated releases.

The July 2021 State of Play Announcements

There has been a little bit of time between PlayStation announcements and the absence of PlayStation at E3 was certainly felt. This State of Play felt like it announced a lot more than initially predicted. If you don’t want to know what was in the showcase, you can watch it for yourself here. Otherwise, here is everything that was announced at PlayStation’s July 2021 State of Play:

Moss Book II

Quill, the lead protagonist in Moss, is back for another adventure in Moss Book II. The story will pick up straight from the end of the first game. Throughout Moss Book II, players will have to scour dangerous terrain, complete difficult puzzles, and defeat enemies.

Moss Book II is currently in development for PSVR and doesn’t have a release date yet. We are excited to see more in the coming months. You can read more about Moss Book II on the PlayStation Blog.

Arcadegeddon

Arcadegeddon is an ever-evolving multiplayer shooter that allows you to play solo or 4-player co-op. Gilly, the owner of a local arcade, is trying to save his business from an evil mega-corporation named Fun Fun Co. In order to do so, he creates a super game by connecting all of the top arcade games together. Unfortunately, the evil corporation hacks the game and injects a virus. Now, it’s up to you and your friends to save the day.

Tribes of Midgard

Tribes of Midgard has been gaining a lot of traction lately, and if you haven’t heard of it yet, you definitely need to check it out in the State of Play. We even added it to our most anticipated games of July.

In Tribes of Midgard, you’ll hack and slash through various enemies and monsters, either alone or with up to 10 other players. Players will have to thrive in the wilderness and collect the necessary resources to defend their village against nightly invasions. Tribes of Midgard has already stated they will be adding a lot of content post-launch, so there will never be a dull moment.

Tribes of Midgard is coming to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and PC this July 27th.

F.I.S.T.

F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch is a Metroidvania action game featuring exploration, intense combat and challenging platforming. The idea behind the rabbit protagonist, Rayton, came from the premise that people wouldn’t be able to universally connect with him if he was human. This influences some of his design elements as well.

F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch will release on PS4 and PS5 on September 7, and PlayStation Plus members can save 10% when they pre-order on the PlayStation Store.

Hunter’s Arena: Legends

Hunter’s Arena is a 30-player battle royale that features both PVP and PVE elements. Players will be taken to a wonderfully crafted East Asian world where they will play as a hunter. To survive, you must defeat deadly demons and survive against other hunters in this melee battle royale. The game can be played solo or in a trio, and players can choose between 17 different hunters.

Hunter’s Arena is available next month as an August PlayStation Plus for both PS4 and PS5.

Sifu

Sifu is a unique fighting game centred around revenge and Kung Fu. It was first announced in the February State of Play, and we even spoke about it on our podcast. The latest trailer introduced us to the aging mechanic.

The aging mechanic and death are central to Sifu, inspiring both the main character’s drive and philosophy. When you die, you age. However, you don’t get weaker, you gain more experience, skills, and knowledge to apply to each fight. Unfortunately, you can’t age forever, and eventually, you will become too old and have to restart your journey.

Sifu has also received an updated release window. To deliver a polished game, the team have moved the game to an early 2022 release.

Jett: The Far Shore

Jett: The Far Shore puts you in the position of an interstellar explorer, who hopes they have found a home for civilisation. You are given directives by Overseer Jao to trace the source of the hymnwave signal that led you to this mysterious planet. Players will need to observe, inspect and catalogue their findings while they explore without harming the unfamiliar environment.

This feels and reminds me a lot of No Man’s Sky, but hopefully, it releases a lot better than that did. Jett: The Far Shore will release later this year on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles

The State of Play featured the first look at Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles’ solo play mode. This mode will feature the stories of the anime’s “Unwavering Resolve Arc” and the recent “Mugen Train Arc” from the movie. Players will control the protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado, and re-experience his story.

Lost Judgment

The State of Play opened the doors to new gameplay on Lost Judgement, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios’s upcoming action noir thriller. A convicted police officer reveals the location of a murder victim’s body, the man who had once bullied his late son. Takayuki Yagami, a private detective, is called to investigate. However, this is far from a straightforward case and soon grows into a large criminal network. Now, it’s up to you and Yagami to uncover the truth and bring justice to those in need.

Deathloop

The main feature of the State of Play was the Deathloop deep dive. In Deathloop, players will need to take out 8 targets before the day repeats itself or die. Learning from each loop is essential to surviving and uncovering the island’s secrets. However, it’s not that easy. You will constantly be hunted by other players or an AI-controlled Julianna, who is in the Deathloop with you.
