Does Baldur’s Gate 3 Have Crossplay?

Baldur’s Gate 3 may be available on multiple platforms, but if you want to play with someone on another platform, you’ll need to know if it has crossplay. Fortunately, we’ve got the answer.

It is fair to say that Baldur’s Gate 3 has taken the gaming world by storm, prompting anyone from the avid D&D fan to the casual gamer to give it a go. Of course, one of its most appealing features is the ability to play with friends. You can push one another off of cliffs and make all sorts of terrible rolls together. However, if you were hoping to experience all this co-op chaos with a friend on another platform via crossplay, you may be a little disappointed.

Does Baldur’s Gate 3 Have Crossplay?

No, Baldur’s Gate 3 does not have crossplay across any platform, including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. However, it has been officially confirmed by the game’s developer, Larian Studios, that crossplay is coming in the future. Unfortunately, this means that if you are on PC and want to play with someone on a console, you can’t.

According to Larian Studio’s Head of Publishing, Michael Douse, via Eurogamer, crossplay was “always in the planning.” The feature is currently “in the roadmap,” according to Douse, but the studio is hesitant to give a release date. You can read Douse’s full quote about crossplay in Baldur’s Gate 3 below:

“It was always in the planning, but we knew it wouldn’t be for launch. It’s in the roadmap, and though we have an idea of when we’d like to get it ready for, we don’t want to put a date on it until we’re sure.”

However, it’s important to note that PC players can still play together, regardless of what launcher they are using, for example, GoG and Steam. Of course, without a fixed release date for crossplay in Baldur’s Gate 3, fans will have to enjoy the experience alone or get their friends on the same platform. However, it’s likely the feature will be added soon, as Larian Studios frequently put out major fixes. It’s worth noting that crossplay is different from cross-platform progression, which the game fortunately does have.
