Alan Wake 2: How to Manually Save

Alan Wake 2 is a challenging survival horror experience, and players struggling may be wondering how they can manually save.

If you’ve started playing Alan Wake 2, or are considering picking it up, you may be wondering how you save. Fortunately, you’re not alone. The game doesn’t make it immediately obvious, but there are ways of saving. Below, we explain every method of saving your progress to make your experience as smooth and easy as possible.

Can You Manually Save In Alan Wake 2?

Yes, you can manually save in Alan Wake 2 in any of the Break Rooms scattered throughout the game by interacting with the thermos in each room. However, you cannot manually save until you reach the second chapter of the game called Return 2: The Heat. The first area that allows you to manually save is The Witch’s Hut at Cauldron Lake. This becomes available once you have returned the fuse to the fuse box.

The first time you can manually save is around 1 hour into the game’s runtime. However, even after this point, Break Rooms are extremely limited. You won’t be able to manually save whenever you want through the game’s menu. Manual saving is restricted to heighten tension and make every enemy encounter as perilous as possible.

How to Save in Alan Wake 2

There are 2 ways to save in Alan Wake 2. You can either visit one of the Break Rooms and interact with the thermos, or wait for the game to autosave. Alan Wake 2 autosaves regularly and after each major cutscene, ensuring that you aren’t set back too much if you die. However, the Break Rooms are the only way to manually save the game.

Fortunately, if you’re finding Alan Wake 2 too difficult, you can choose from 3 different difficulty options to make the experience a little more forgiving. That way you won’t need to worry too much about manual saving. Now that you know how to save your game, make sure to check out our Games Hub for more guides.
