Will Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Be On PS4 & Xbox One?

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is coming to next-gen consoles on December 7, 2023, but will it also release on PS4 and Xbox One?

Fans of the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora don’t have long to wait until it finally drops. However, if you’re still on last-gen consoles, you may be wondering if you can play the game at all. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered. Below, we explain whether Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be released on PS4 and Xbox One.

Is Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora On PS4 & Xbox One?

No, unfortunately, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will not be on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. It is a next-gen exclusive title, meaning it is only available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. This is a first for a Ubisoft game, which have recently been released on both last and next-gen platforms. For example, Far Cry 6 was released on both PS4 and PS5, much like Assassins Creed: Valhalla.

However, the expanded scope and scale of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, alongside the additional work needed to port such a graphically intensive game, has meant that Ubisoft is forgoing a last-gen release. It’s a shame for those still on PS4 and Xbox One, but it will allow for a greater experience overall.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s Creative Director Magnus Jansén and Technical Director of Programming Nikolay Stefanov spoke with IGN about why the game is next-gen exclusive. They cited the enhanced animal AI, larger world, and need to soar at great speeds through the sky as the reasons why the game wouldn’t run on last-gen hardware. Importantly, they note that animals attacking you or fleeing have the ability to “just completely destroy” the environment around them.

So, that’s why Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is skipping last-gen hardware. Of course, if you’re picking it up on next-gen platforms, check out our Games Hub for our other guides.
