The Last of Us Part 2 is Coming to PlayStation 5 Early Next Year, With New Roguelike Mode

Naughty Dog is happy to announce that The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will come to PlayStation 5 on January 19, 2024.

The announcement came off the back of a leak on the PlayStation Store, and more specifically, sites like PS Deals, which has updated its website to reflect the game appearing on the store. The first game, The Last of Us Part 1, was released on PlayStation 5 on September 2, 2022, so it’s nice to see the sequel receive the same remaster treatment.

What is Different in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is being introduced to PlayStation 5 as the definitive way to experience the game. The infamous series is returning with technological improvements, new modes, and new behind-the-scenes features so players can see how the game was made.

Roguelike Mode

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will feature an entirely new roguelike survival mode that pits players against various enemies in both stealth and combat encounters. No Return, as it’s aptly called, will allow players to choose their own path in every run and face the unique and increasingly difficult twists of each encounter.

After completing an encounter, players can choose their rewards, which include the ability to spec-out their character and more. There will be characters, skins, and more to unlock, as well as a global leaderboard tied to a Daily Run. More information on the mode will be available closer to launch.

Guitar Free Play Mode

The playable guitar was a fan-favorite aspect of The Last of Us Part 3, so Naughty Dog has included a new Guitar Free Play mode. Therefore, you can strum the strings across various unlockable instruments, use audio FX pedals to change your performance, and control different characters from many in-game locations.

Upgraded Features in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is designed for both new and returning players, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s creation. The Remastered version includes a set of Lost Levels, providing players with a unique opportunity to explore early-development sequences that were previously cut from the game. These levels come with embedded developer commentary for added context and will undoubtedly add some fresh perspective to the game.

Director’s commentary has been recorded for the campaign’s cutscenes, which feature insights from director Neil Druckmann, narrative lead Halley Gross, and actors Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Laura Bailey.

In terms of gameplay, the Remastered edition will deliver enhanced graphics, including native 4K output, an Unlocked Framerate option for TVs that support VRR, improved textures, increased detail, and much more. There will also be improved loading times, DualSense controller features, and a suite of accessibility options. New additions like Descriptive Audio and Speech to Vibrations, Speedrun Mode, and bonus skins for characters and weapons enhance the gaming experience. Photo Mode has also been improved with dynamic lighting, Frame Forward, Gaze Direction, and new frame and logo options.

Ultimately, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered aims to provide a complete, immersive, and visually stunning experience for players on the PlayStation 5.
