Metaphor: ReFantazio Archetype

Metaphor: ReFantazio Fast & Squad Battle Systems, Explained

Metaphor: ReFantazio has two different types of combat: “Fast” and “Squad.” Here is what you need to know about both.

While exploring dungeons in Metaphor: ReFantazio, players will encounter challenging foes. They can fight them using the “Fast” combat system, or the “Squad” combat system. Players can switch between these battle systems at any time during combat, allowing them to take down their foes in the way that best suits the situation. Below, we explain the difference between both combat styles in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Metaphor: ReFantazio “Fast” Combat, Explained

The “Fast” combat system in Metaphor: ReFantazio allows players to engage in real-time action combat. Players can use a lock-on function, dash, and even evade attacks. Their fighting style will depend on which Archetype they have equipped.

The “Fast” combat mode is really for fighting weaker enemies. It’s designed to speed up combat against enemies you’ve already fought or that are significantly lower-ranked than you. Thanks to your Fae Sight, you’ll be able to tell which enemies are worth fighting using the “Fast” combat mode.

This is an ability you use through your partner, the fairy Gallica. It highlights each enemy in a dungeon, and any that are yellow or red are going to be more challenging. If they’re too strong, you won’t be able to defeat them using the “Fast” battle mode. At this point, you’ll need to switch to the “Squad” combat mode, which we’ll go over below.

Metaphor: ReFantazio “Squad” Combat, Explained

The “Squad” combat mode in Metaphor: ReFantazio is turn-based and more akin to what players are used to from the Persona franchise. You’ll be able to have a party of up to four people, so you’ll need to carefully pick from the 7 possible party members who you’ll bring. While in the “Squad” combat mode, you’ll need to pick commands to use against your enemies or to buff your team. These can be selected with the touch of a button, ensuring that combat is fast-paced.

You’ll be able to pass a character’s turn to another player, similar to how the Baton Pass mechanic worked in Persona 3 Reload. Additionally, you will be able to switch between the front and back rows, change party members, and utilize a range of other tactics to turn the tide of battle in your favor. The difficulty of Metaphor: ReFantazio’s combat has been designed to be very challenging to encourage players to make the most of every ability they have at their disposal.

Finally, while in “Squad” mode, you’ll be able to transform into awakened Archetypes. Each Archetype has its own skills that target specific enemy weaknesses. However, this works both ways, and Archetypes have their own weaknesses that your enemy can exploit. You’ll need to utilize them to the best of your ability to triumph over your enemies.

That’s everything you need to know about the “Fast” and “Squad” combat mechanics in Metaphor: ReFantazio. For more guides just like this one, be sure to check out our Guide Hub.
