Foamstars: Everything You Need to Know Including Release Date, Price, Platforms & Modes

Foamstars, the online 4v4 foam party shooter exclusive to PlayStation, will launch next month alongside the PlayStation Plus monthly game line-up. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Foamstars was announced during a PlayStation 5 direct as part of Sony’s push for more live service games. While many have compared it to the Splatoon series, Foamstars hopes to set itself apart. With it releasing in the next few weeks, fans are likely wondering what they can expect. Fortunately, a number of trailers and press releases have unveiled a plethora of details about the colorful third-person shooter from Square Enix. Below, we detail absolutely everything you need to know about Foamstars.

Foamstars Release Date and Platforms

Foamstars is launching globally on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, exclusively for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It will first be released exclusively for free for PlayStation Plus Essential users and then will be available for purchase on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. It will cost US$29.99/£24.99.

Foamstars will not be coming to Xbox or PC at launch. It isn’t clear how long Sony’s exclusivity deal with the game will be. However, based on their previous deals with Square Enix, it will likely be exclusive to PlayStation for 6 months. After that, there is a chance that it will be ported to PC and Xbox, especially considering it’s a live service, online-only title.

What Is Foamstars?

Foamstars is an online-only 4v4 multiplayer third-person shooter developed by Square Enix. In Foamstars, you can take part in PvP and PvE modes either alone or with friends across a multitude of maps set in the colorful city of Bath Vegas. You’ll utilize guns that shoot foam, which can be used to change the stadium in dynamic ways. Create walls, build ramps to surf over, or just block your opponent by dominating the field.

This is a live service game, so naturally, there is a Season Pass. You’ll need to complete Missions and Challenges to earn XP and unlock more characters, skins, and emotes. Much like Fortnite, more content, including modes, maps, and characters, will be released gradually across Seasons. These will be made available to all players, but Season Pass-specific characters can only be unlocked by purchasing the Season Pass. You can see some of the maps available in the game below:
