The annual Elder Scrolls Online Global Reveal livestream has revealed a wealth of new features coming to the MMO this year. Fans look forward to the event as it promises to unveil significant updates that have either been long requested or teased. Fortunately, the 2024 edition did not disappoint, revealing what the next chapter of the Elder Scrolls Online will look like.

The latest Elder Scrolls Online Global Reveal showcased the next chapter, The Gold Road. It introduces the West Weald zone and the city of Skingrad, which are familiar to existing players from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The chapter adds fun activities like new quests, delves, boss fights, a trial for 12 players, and events. Furthermore, a new feature is being added called Scribing. Finally, two more dungeons, a new PvP feature, and more are also coming soon. Below, you’ll find details on each of these new features:
Gold Road
The Gold Road expansion continues the story developed in the previous chapter, Necrom, in which players learned about a new Daedric Prince, Ithelia. In the Gold Road, players discover this prince has escaped imprisonment and fled to the West Weald area. When they venture there to find the prince, a jungle suddenly appears.
There, the players get involved with a splinter group of wood elves called the Recollection. They are intent on restoring Ithelia’s powers by helping her recover her memory. The plot revolves around unraveling the mystery of Ithelia’s lost memory and understanding what happened between her and the other Daedric Princes.
The new zone, West Weald, consists of three new biomes. The first is The Gold Road, a dense forest filled with mysteries. The second is the Valenwood Annexation, a jungle teeming with strange plants and animals. Finally, the third is the Colovian Highlands, a dry, hilly area.
Scribing
Scribing is a unique game system exclusive to Gold Road, that allows players to collect unique skills and customize their primary, secondary, and tertiary effects. You do this by gathering 3 main resources: Grimoires, which are the unchanging core of the ability; Scripts, which determine the characteristics of the ability (such as the damage type and whether it buffs, etc), that are placed into the Script slots in your Grimoire; Inks, which are a consumable that changes your ability.
When Scribing launches, it will concentrate on Weapon & World skill lines like the Mages Guild, Fighters Guild, Soul Magic, Assault, and Support. This wide-ranging focus means all players can use and benefit from Scribing, regardless of class. Each skill line will have at least one unique skill that players can customize.
A key feature of Scribing is the ability to alter the visual effects of abilities. For example, players can change the Wall of Elements ability to show a purple color. At launch, players can unlock 22 styles, bringing a new aesthetic aspect to the game.
Elder Scrolls Online 2024 Roadmap
Players can expect four key updates across 2024 for Elder Scrolls Online broken across each quarter. They are:
- Oathsworn Pit & Bedlam Veil dungeons – Q1
- Gold Road Chapter – Q2
- New housing feature – Q3
- New PvP feature, Cyrodiil district & two new companions – Q4
The Elder Scrolls Online first quarter update will introduce two new dungeons: Oathsworn Pit and Bedlam Veil. Not much is known about them at this time. The excitement continues into the second quarter with the launch of the Gold Road Chapter, which will additionally feature the new Lucent Citadel trial and the innovative Scribing system. As the year progresses, the third quarter will bring a fresh housing feature to enhance players’ experience. Finally, the fourth quarter will unveil a new PVP feature, distinct from Cyrodiil, and welcome two new companions to the game, adding more depth and variety to the player experience.
Elder Scrolls Online Gold Road Release Date
The Elder Scrolls Online Gold Road Chapter will be available on PC/Mac from Monday, June 3, 2024, and on Xbox and PlayStation consoles from Tuesday, June 18, 2024. The reveal promises plenty of upcoming things to be excited for and an expansion that blends familiar settings with fresh gameplay and narrative elements, offering a new experience for newcomers and veteran players of the Elder Scrolls Online universe.
