Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 Delayed Indefinitely

A tweet by Stephen Totilo earlier today revealed that the next instalments in the Diablo and Overwatch franchises would be delayed indefinitely.

There was technically never a release date announced for either Diablo IV or Overwatch 2, but Blizzard decided it was necessary to update everyone on their pipeline status. There have been many leadership changes within the company, largely due to the legal fire that Blizzard and Activision have been in the past few months.

Because of this, a lot of the originally planned content requires more development time and polish. There are still lots more Blizzard content coming in 2022, just not from the two most eagerly anticipated titles. They believe giving the corresponding teams extra time will ensure the satisfaction of the respective communities for many years to come.

Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 were both announced back in 2019, but neither had many development updates or a definitive release date. Aside from the sexual harassment and legal repercussions Activision Blizzard is facing, the Covid-19 Pandemic can also be attributed to the inevitable delay in their upcoming games.

Blizzard is confident that these delays are the right course of action for the company, players, and the long term success of their gaming franchises.
