Call of Duty Outbreak

Call of Duty MW3: Everything We Know About Zombies

As more information on Call of Duty: MW3 is revealed, details on the Zombies mode are slowly coming forward.

The mode looks set to make a first appearance in the Modern Warfare series, and fans are curious about what they can expect from the latest installment. Here is everything we know about Zombies so far.

What is the Call of Duty Zombies mode?

Zombies has been a staple of the series, especially the Treyarch-made games, since its inauguration in Call of Duty: World at War. The mode is survival-based where players must eliminate all zombies and survive each round in an endless cycle, with each round increasing in difficulty. It has become a massive success, with Treyarch making the addition of the mode a significant priority when developing their Call of Duty games.

As of now, there are over 35 Zombies maps in the series, even though the mode was last seen in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. It was revealed that Treyarch is developing a Zombies mode for the newest game release, MW3, and fans are interested to see what type of survival action will be brought to the Modern Warfare era.

What Do We Know About MW3 Zombies So Far?

Modes

As of now, Zombies are returning but in a slightly different format than usual. Instead of the traditional wave-based system on a small map, the Zombies Outbreak mode is set to make a return. This will function similarly to Black Ops Cold War but with some differences. Aside from the weapons being entirely different, Treyarch will be using IW 9.0, the same engine as the Modern Warfare series.

MW3 Zombies is expanding from the usual Outbreak formula again, by adding a multiple squad aspect. Moreover, instead of players being in a match with just three other players, there will be multiple squads that work together to fight the zombie hordes.

According to leaks, it will feature six squads of four, allowing for 24 players in the Zombies map, fighting to survive. There is no official confirmation if the squads will work to accomplish objectives or if they are also enemies, like in DMZ.

Map

Activision has boasted that MW3 will feature the biggest map in Zombies history. While no official reveals have been given as of yet, a screenshot from the mode was released and many believe that the Outbreak 2.0 map will be none other than Al Mazrah. However, more details on the map are likely to be presented during the Call of Duty: Next event.

Although it may be a simple screenshot, due to the surrounding buildings, including the appearance of the Burger Town restaurant, it most likely is a district in Al Mazrah or a variation of it. Players who have ventured around the map in Warzone will be familiar with this location, and, with Outbreak being a massive zombies map, the link seems to fit that Al Mazrah could be the launch location for MW3 zombies.

MW3 Zombies

Story

It has been revealed by Activision that the MW3 Zombies story will continue the Dark Aether narrative from Call of Duty: Vanguard and Black Ops Cold War.

According to leaks, the story involves a group called the Terminus Outcomes, who have stolen cargo containing Aetherium in order to weaponize it and have unleashed a zombie horde upon the map. Players are members of a team taking part in Operation Deadbolt, working to stop the undead threat.

Perks

Perks in Zombies are powerups that last until a player is downed and assist the player throughout the match. Some provide players with more health, being able to revive teammates faster, reload faster, and much more.

As the Zombies mode is being developed by Treyarch, the creators of the original mode for the series, and takes place in an Outbreak map, we can expect perks will make an appearance in MW3. We can also predict that certain returning perks are likely to show up in this iteration of zombies, including Jugger-Nog, Speed Cola, and Stamin-Up.
