Magic: The Gathering’s latest set, Bloomburrow is packed full of gorgeous nature, courageous critters, and beautiful art. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
The latest Magic: The Gathering set, Bloomburrow, is going full Redwall with its plethora of adorable anthropomorphic rodents and animals. It features gorgeous art from incredibly talented artists, as well as cards that represent the changing seasons in the world of Bloomburrow. Below, we go over the highlights of this set, some of the more notable cards, and explain the new features.
All New & Returning Mechanics in Magic: The Gathering Bloomburrow
There are several new and returning mechanics that will be implemented in the Magic: The Gathering Bloomburrow set. This ranges from new keywords like Offspring to Modal Spells. We’ve broken them all down for you below:
- Offspring – This is a new keyword found on creature cards. It allows players to pay an additional mana cost to create a token copy of the original card. However, it only has 1 power and 1 toughness (1/1).
- Gift – Players can promise Gifts, such as food tokens or drawing a card, to their opponent. In return, they will receive a unique advantage.
- Forage – This is a new action that allows players to exile three cards from their graveyard or sacrifice a food token to trigger varying effects.
- Valiant – This is a new keyword found on creature cards. It triggers a bonus effect for that creature whenever it is targeted by a spell or ability.
- Expend – This new rule term tracks how much mana a player has spent throughout a turn, then grants boons based on the number of mana used while the Expend term was in play.
- Modal Spells – Players can choose to spend up to five ‘pawprints’ to activate different effects listed on this new card type. Each effect will cost between one to three pawprints to trigger and can be activated more than once.
Imagine: Courageous Critters Planeswalkers
Bloomburrow features 24 Imagine: Courageous Critters Planeswalkers cards. These include the likes of Jace, The Mind Sculptor, Liliana of the Dark Realms, and Nissa, Who Shakes the World. Full Art Cards

Helga, Skittish Seer
Helga, Skittish Seer the Frog Druid is a Legendary Creature in the Magic: The Gathering Bloomburrow set. This is an incredibly powerful card and comes with gorgeous art by David Peterson. He has also done the art for five other key character cards in the set. Whenever you cast a creature spell with a mana value of 4 or more, you get to not only draw a card but also gain a life and put a +1/+1 counter on Helga. Additionally, whenever she is tapped, you get to add X amount of mana of any color based on Helga’s power and then spend it to cast creature spells with a mana value of 4 or more.

Lumra, Bellow of the Woods
Lumra, Bellow of the Woods is the terrifying Elemental Bear and a Legendary Creature. Its art was done by Mitsuhiro Arita, who encapsulates the truly thunderous bellow of Lumra. This card has both Vigilanace and Reach and its power and toughness are equal to the number of lands in your control. Additionally, when you play Lumra, you get to mill four cards and then return every land card in your graveyard back to the battlefield. This boosts Lumra’s power and toughness right out of the gate.

Woodland Frames
There are 42 cards in the Bloomburrow set, which feature the Showcase Woodland frames. These surround the card in various vines and leaves unique to the various factions the character on the card is from. You can see the differences between each one and how it drastically alters the gorgeous artwork on display.



Seasonal Changes
You’ll be able to fully immerse yourself in the world of Bloomburrow thanks to the game’s gorgeous full-art basic land cards. These fully encapsulate the verdant valleys and dense forests of Bloomburrow while also honoring the changing seasons. The basic land cards will be available in four season varieties, including Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. There’s even the powerful Legendary Land card, Three Tree City, which has four separate versions representing each of the four seasons.
