Stardew Valley’s developer, ConcernedApe, has claimed that all future DLC and updates will be completely free.
It’s not uncommon for developers to charge for DLC, especially if it adds a significant amount of new content to the game. However, there are a handful of devs that prefer to dish out this new content in the form of free updates. Of course, one of the most prolific games that received this treatment is the critically acclaimed farming sim Stardew Valley. Over the years, it has received a number of updates adding exciting new gameplay for players to enjoy. For anyone worrying that this generosity would one day stop, never fear. Its developer has officially confirmed that players will never need to pay for any future updates.
ConcernedApe Tells Fans DLC and Updates Will Always Be Free
Eric Barone, also known as ConcernedApe, has confirmed to fans via X that all DLC and updates for his games will be completely free. In response to a fan telling Barone that so long as Stardew Valley updates are free, players won’t mind waiting for them, he stated, “I will never charge money for a DLC or update.” The bold response has generated a lot of positive press, with fans praising ConcernedApe for his stance.
It’s fair to say many assumed this was the case, especially considering every update until this point has been free. However, the statement is definitely reassuring to fans. This was all kicked off by ConcernedApe’s post on X stating that the long-anticipated update 1.6 for Stardew Valley on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, as well as the next PC update, are still in development. It remains to be seen what future updates and DLC for Stardew Valley and ConcernedApe’s next game, Haunted Chocolatier, will look like.
