The First Descendant may be a co-op experience, but is it possible to play it solo and even offline? Here’s what you need to know.
While most people prefer to play cooperative shooters with their friends, there are some, us included, that like to play them alone. There’s nothing more exciting than lone-wolfing a tough situation and coming out triumphant. So, it’s no surprise that some players are curious as to whether The First Descendant can be played solo. Fortunately, if you were hoping to carve your own path, you’re in luck. However, if you were hoping to play it offline, you may want to reconsider.
Can You Play The First Descendant Solo?
Yes, you can play The First Descendant entirely solo if you want. All of the content available in The First Descendant is available for those wanting to play single-player. However, the game is significantly harder when played solo, and certain boss fights and timed missions can feel almost impossible. We found that switching out your guns for stronger ones on a regular basis and having a good mix of offensive and defensive Modules helps to make playing alone a far easier experience.
If you do want to play solo, you’ll need to switch your game to Private. To do this, when you select which map you want to play in, change the Field Options tab in the top-right from Public to Private. You’ll need to do this every time you want to load into a match, as it is set to Public by default and will reset to Public every time you load back into the hub world.

Can You Play The First Descendant Offline?
No, you cannot play The First Descendant offline. It is an always-online game that requires a constant internet connection. Fortunately, you do not need to be subscribed to PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass in order to play The First Descendant, as it is free-to-play. So, even if you intend to play the entire game alone, you’ll still need to be connected to the internet.
