Logitech Yeti Orb Review

Having a good microphone is important whether you’re a podcaster, streamer, or just someone who wants clear communication in the modern-day world of virtual meetings. The Logitech Yeti Orb is designed to deliver exceptional sound quality and ease of use, all for an entry-level price. Game Crater was fortunate to take a closer look at the device and put it to use.

Design and Features

The Logitech Yeti Orb sports a simple, modern design that won’t look out of place on your desk. Its spherical shape is both eye-catching and practical, and it sits on a stable tripod stand. The microphone comes in a matte black finish with a grey mesh, adding a professional touch. At the top of the microphone, there is a Logitech G logo that lights up in different colors depending on whether the microphone is recording or not. The small tip above the logo helps you see the light’s color even when the microphone is turned away from you.

When you first unbox the Yeti Orb, you’ll notice its sturdy build quality. It feels solid and well-constructed, indicating it can withstand regular use. The microphone’s size is just right: compact enough to fit on a crowded desk but large enough to house powerful internal components. One letdown is the lack of on-device controls, although this isn’t surprising for a budget plug-and-play device. You will be required to use the device to manage its controls, such as whether to mute, etc.

There are two different mount points for the tripod, so you can position it upright or tilted at a 45-degree angle, depending on your preference. The Yeti Orb features a USB-C connection at the back, allowing for easy and efficient cable management when plugging it into your computer.

Performance and User Experience

The Yeti Orb is a very easy device to get working straight away. It’s as simple as plugging in the device and instantly starting to use it, which may also make it handy for people who are on the go but still need a clear microphone recording.

The Logitech Yeti Orb records clearly and concisely, impressing me with its sound quality for a budget-friendly microphone. It did a good job of recording the variances in my voice and capturing a range of audio, showing that this device is capable of high-quality recordings. However, it was also good at catching unwanted background noises, so you will want to ensure you have a quiet room to record in.

I also found that for the device to work well, you need to speak quite closely with it. Fixing the device on a tripod made this very difficult, and I found myself speaking very close to the microphone to achieve the high-quality recording I desired. If you have the device sitting near the back of your desk and sitting back in your chair, you will notice a significant drop in the recording quality.

Integration and Configuration

Integrating the Logitech Yeti Orb into your existing setup is straightforward. The microphone is compatible with popular recording software such as Audacity, GarageBand, and OBS Studio. This broad compatibility ensures that you can easily incorporate the Yeti Orb into your workflow without needing to switch to new software. The microphone’s plug-and-play nature means it’s ready to use as soon as you connect it to your computer.

For more advanced users, the microphone offers additional customization options through Logitech’s G HUB software. This software allows you to fine-tune the microphone’s settings, ensuring you get the best possible audio quality for your specific needs. With G HUB leveraging the Blue VO!CE software for microphone adjustments, you are able to use a broad number of configurations in real time to immediately modulate your voice to wherever it is recording. This software was easy to use to add filters or noise reduction; plus, there are also plenty of presets you can utilize to try to increase the recording quality.

Value for Money

The Logitech Yeti Orb will be a good choice if you are looking for an entry-level recording or streaming microphone and don’t want to pay the costly requirements for a high-end microphone. It offers high-quality recording and a no-thrills device for a reasonable price of RRP AU$99.95. However, this device requires you to speak closely to it and comes with minimal features that won’t meet the requirements of professional streamers or for serious audio recording.

For your first microphone or for casual use, this is an excellent device. Plus, it regularly goes on sale, so make sure you check out the Logitech website or Amazon for the best deals.
