Once Human: Complete Fishing Guide

Once Human has a lot of extra activities for players to do during their downtime, including a spot of fishing. If you’re thinking of getting into it, here is the complete guide on how.

It feels like these days, you can’t call yourself a video game unless you have a fishing minigame. So, it may come as no surprise to learn that the popular open-world survival game Once Human has a fishing mechanic. Fortunately, it’s fairly easy to get into. So, if you want to find yourself a nice lake to set yourself up and do a spot of fishing, here’s everything you need to know.

How to Craft a Fishing Rod & Bait

To craft a Fishing Rod, head to your Supplies Workbench and locate the Basic Fishing Rod under Tools. It’ll cost you 20 Wood and 10 Copper Ingots to craft. Of course, you won’t be able to catch rare and valuable fish with a Basic Fishing Rod, but it acts as a good start for those wanting to get into it.

Once you’ve made your rod, you’ll need to make Bait. The easiest type of Bait to make is Dough Fish Bait, as it just requires Corn. However, if you upgrade your Fishing Skill, you’ll unlock the ability to craft better Fishing Rods and Bait.

Tips For Fishing in Once Human

You will need to keep in mind the placement of your Fishing Rod when you’re fishing as well as the direction the fish is pulling. Understanding these will help you fish better. We’ve broken it all down below, as well as some helpful extra tips:

  • Aim your Fishing Rod carefully – You want to aim your Fishing Rod just a little bit in front of you. Wait for the red line to move a few inches in front of you, and then throw. If you throw it too far or too close, you’ll struggle to reel in the fish. You’ll know you’ve thrown it a good distance when fish start appearing near your Bait.
  • Watch the direction of the fish – When you’ve finally caught something, you can’t just hold down left-click and hope for the best. You need to watch which direction the fish is pulling and then pull in the opposite direction. So, if it is pulling to the right, then you’ll need to move your mouse (while holding left-click) to the left and vice versa.
  • Cut the fish up once you’ve got it – After catching your fish, open up your inventory and locate it. You’ll want to use it (press F) to turn it into fish pieces, which you can then cook with.
  • Don’t forget your Bait – It’s very important that you remember to bring plenty of Bait with you when you head out to fish. Remember to pack more than you need, just in case.
